WestCare and Haywood have not definecd what type of agreement theyare pursuing. The affiliation process begajn in September when thewestern N.C. health-care systems began pursuing options as part ofa long-term strategy.

It also would provide additionalo leverage in negotiating with insurerds and increase access to capital for building projectsand renovations. WestCare’s two hospitalsw are Harris Regional Hospital, an 86-bed acute-care facility in Sylva, and Swain Countyg Hospital, a 48-bed facility in Bryson City. Haywood Regional Medical Center isa 170-bed hospitak in Clyde.
